The five Pou of Ngāti Tara Tokanui Trust

OROPAKI/CONTEXT
With the signing of the Treaty Deeds of Settlement imminent the Post Settlement Governance Entity has completed a strategic plan to drive progress setting out what we will achieve over the next 5 years.
The key pathways within this plan are guided by what you have told us at a number of iwi strategic and information planning hui. We collated your statements into this strategic plan and the purpose of our hui today is about checking back with you to update, adjust and amend to ensure that the key pathways and their associated outcomes remain the key aspirations of our iwi.
Format of the Document
Commencing with the vision and mission statements the document is followed by the 5 Pou (key areas) we will focus on over the next 5 years.
You will see from the Deed the Trust the strategic planning process is to be established within 18 months of the signing of the Deeds of Settlement the signing of the Deed triggers the next steps the fomulation of the strategic plan. So why have we commenced the planning process when we have not signed the Deeds of Settlment?
Over the past year or so we have successfully gained a number of Ministry of Education ‘MOE’ contracts. Funding was secured for the development of our iwi strategic and education plans. Negotiations between Councils, Stakeholders are also underway and this planning process supports our relationship contractual agreements foremostly it is critical to ensure we remain focussed on clearly defined pathways.   The core responsibilities of the Trust is the protection and management of the assets accruing from our iwi Treaty Settlements. Much of our work to date has been about structuring our corporate whare, establishing relationships building a projects economic base prior to the signing of the Deeds of Treaty Settlements. We are undertaking our work in a vacuum, we can no longer wait for outstanding Treaty issues to be resolved to establish our corporate structures. We are accountable to our iwi, our actions must be transparent,  by producing our strategic plan our iwi will have the right, the voice to say this is what you said you would do… has it been done and if not why not?
